Is your business eligible for Government Funding?

Call SSBT today to see how you can help your staff achieve Certificate III or upgrade to Diploma qualification with funding from the NSW government.

Why is the funding available?

All workers in licensed early childhood education and care services will be required to either hold or be working towards a qualification at Certificate III level in Early Childhood Education and Care or above by January 2014 as directed by the Council of Australian Governments. From January 2014 coordinators in family day care services are also required to hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care and at least 12 months subsequent work experience.

To help meet these requirements, the NSW Government is implementing a strategy to assist workers get qualified. Workers without formal qualifications will have the opportunity to receive recognition for their current skills and training to address any skill gaps. NSW State Training Services has funding support available for eligible participants to assist with the costs of upskilling to the Certificate lll in Early Childhood Education and Care and the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
Note: Please be aware that there are some compulsory fees associated with the funded training programs, as set down by NSW State Training Services, which all training organisations are required to charge.

2 ways to achieve a qualification

  1. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – this involves getting workers recognised for the skills they have already gained on the job. Call for a chat with SSBT Business Development Manager about the RPL process and discuss which assessment option would best meet your needs. The NSW Community Services & Health ITAB also has a fantastic FREE online resource, ALL IN A DAYS WORK, to help early childhood educators to assess whether they are eligible for RPL. The resource gives scenarios and examples of evidence to be collected and submitted to SSBT after enrolment. Access this resource at http://workplaceskills.com.au/moodle/
  2. Training Employment based or via distance study – is available to those already working in children’s services to be up skilled to either the Certificate lll in Early Childhood Education and Care or the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. This may be through a traineeship pathway, either as a New Entrant or Existing Worker.

SSBT caters for two categories of trainees

  1. New Entrant Trainees and Apprentices – have been employed less than three months full-time or 12 months part-time or casual, on entering a traineeship arrangement.
